"Over the past term I was fortunate to complete my community work place field experience at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRC). In my five weeks at BIRC, I have had the opportunity to tutor participants in educational assignments and cognitive remediation programs. Through observation and case conference participation, I have also gained an appreciation for the vocational counselling, occupational therapy, and functional skills training many clients receive. My experience at BIRC has provided me with valuable teaching opportunities and wonderful learning experiences. I have developed a new appreciation for learning and have challenged myself to explore new, and more creative ways of teaching others. I have been truly inspired by the dedication of the participants and by the supportive and caring staff I was able to work with. The experiences I have gained at BIRC have been of great value to my development as a teacher and I will continue to draw on them throughout my personal and professional life. "
