Gerrit Groeneweg, Ph.D., C.Psych., B.S.A.M.
Executive Director
Gerrit Groeneweg is the Executive Director of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. He also serves as Executive Director of the Brock Institute. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, and is a graduate of the Banff School of Advanced Management. His professional experience over the last thirty years includes service delivery and organization management in a variety of rehabilitation environments supporting individuals with developmental, mental health, and/or cognitive disabilities. He has served as a consultant and served on the Boards of a number of organizations. He has conducted and published original research in a wide range of areas including vocational and residential services, staffing, aging and program trends. He has presented at numerous provincial, national and international conferences and forums, and has lectured extensively at the University of Calgary where he maintains status as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology.

Curtis Stoelting, Ph.D., CVE, C.Psych
Program Manager
Curtis Stoelting is the Program Manager of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. He received his Baccalaureate and Master degrees in Psychology from the University of Ottawa, and his Doctorate in Rehabilitation from the University of Calgary. He is also a Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist and a Chartered Psychologist. Dr. Stoelting has worked in the human service field for over 25 years, where he has held positions as a Researcher, Rehabilitation Counsellor, Rehabilitation Consultant, Psychologist and Program Manager. He also has published articles and presented at conferences in the area of vocational rehabilitation and brain injury.

Cheryl Kirby, Dip. OTA
Occupational Therapist Assistant
Cheryl is employed as the Occupational Therapy Assistant at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. She received her Occupational Therapy Assistant Diploma from Medicine Hat College. Cheryl brings to the team experience working with groups of children, adolescents, and adults with diverse mental and physical disabilities in home and community-based environments. She also brings experience researching, organizing, implementing, and critiquing leisure/play educational and work programs.

Daryl Hebert, M.Ed., C.Psych
Cognitive Counselling Psychologist
Daryl Hebert is the Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist at BIRC, managing the cognitive programs and conducting cognitive assessments and interventions in the home and community. She received her Masters degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Calgary, with a focus on counselling adults. She completed her chartering hours as a psychologist at the Fanning Centre and at BIRC, specializing in counselling clients with disabling conditions. Along with the duties of the cognitive therapist, she does individual counselling with BIRC clients and assumes the responsibilities of case management.

Ruth Kenealey, LPN
Cognitive Assistant/Volunteer Co-ordinator
Ruth Kenealey is the Cognitive Rehabilitation Assistant and Volunteer Co-ordinator at BIRC. She is responsible for implementing cognitive programs under the supervision of a pyschologist, and recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling and evaluating the volunteers who assist with cognitive and administrative activities. Ruth Kenealey brings with her more than 28 years of practical nursing experience, 12 of which were working with individuals with acquired brain injuries.

Margaret Grant, BscOT©
Occupational Therapist
Margaret Grant is an Occupational Therapist (OT). She received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Western Ontario in 1998. Her expertise is primarily in the area of neuro rehabilitation. She has been employed as an occupational therapist in centres across Canada from acute neurology in Corner Brook Newfoundland to the Dr. Vernon Fanning Neuro Rehab Program in Calgary, Alberta. She has also worked as an OT in a neuro rehab program in New Zealand. Margaret has continued her development as a professional including training in the Neuro Developmental Treatment Approach (NDT). She is an active member of her profession and has presented in an international forum on client-centred practice and goal setting.

Darcy Flaig, Dipl. Community Rehab.
Rehabilitation Practitioner
Darcy Flaig is a rehabilitation practitioner at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. He received his diploma in Community Rehabilitation From Mount Royal College in Calgary. Darcy has been working with people with various disabilities since 1992. Darcy's specific responsibilities at BIRC include Case Management, Intake and Resourcing of information and services to benefit BIRC participants and their families.

Jody Treleaven, Dipl. Rehab.
Rehabilitation Practitioner/Scheduler
Jody Treleaven holds a diploma in Rehabilitation Services from Mount Royal College. She brings to the role of case manager and program scheduler, her experiences working with adults with a brain injury in a residential settings and working with mentally challenged children in all types of settings. Jody has also had diverse experience in retail, day care centres and real estate.

Rachel Murray, B.A., B.Ed., Dip. Ed.
Psychosocial Co-ordinator/Educational Specialist
Rachel Murray is a multiple graduate of the University of Calgary, Faculty of Education. Rachel brings to her role as the Psychosocial Co-ordinator/Educational Specialist numerous years of educational experience with the public school system. In addition, her most recent training and experience in the disability and employment fields provides the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre with a broad range of knowledge and skills which assist individuals with brain injuries and their families to more successfully integrate into the community.

Rose Hanssen, Diploma LSC
Executive Assistant
Rose Hanssen is the Executive Assistant of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. Her prime objectives are fundraising and marketing in addition to providing administrative support. Rose brings to BIRC experiences gained working in the not-for-profit sector for the past thirty years. She also brings with her Board experience, having sat on several charitable Boards in Calgary. Rose graduated from the Life Skills Coach Training Program in December of 2002. Currently she is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was recently appointed to the Board of The Alberta Association of Professional Life Skills Coaches.

Trish Strong, Dipls. in Library Art & Visual Art
Receptionist
Trish Strong received a diploma in Library Arts from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and a Visual Arts Diploma from the Alberta College of Art and Design. Though not originally trained using technology in the visual arts field, she has recently combined her interest in computers with her visual arts background. On behalf of BIRC she has created a variety of publicity and public relations types of materials such as brochures, newsletters, etc. Using her library background, Trish was also able to assist in the initial set up of the library system at BIRC.

Dallis Briggs, BA
Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor
Dallis Briggs is the Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan. He has worked with youth who have mental disorders as well as adults who are developmentally delayed. He brings experience in counselling, goal setting, coaching and facilitation.
